Gareth and Lynette


Tennyson was based on the fourth book of "Le morte d'Arthur" to write this story, which is believed to have been invited by Malory.
Neither version of the story before Malory, is possible that Malory had invited this story.


Gareth, the youngest son of King Lot and Bellicent (Morgause) dreams of becoming a knight, but he is frustrated for his mother. After a long discussion, Bellicent orders serve as a kitchen in the castle of his uncle without saying his name during one year and six months.

When he arrived in disguise to Camelot, Gareth is received by the magician Merlin, who is disguised.
Arthur allow the request of the boy to be part of the kitchen service. After the working hard during a month, the prince regrest and Bellicent frees him from his vow.

Gareth is secretly appointed knight by Arthur, who gives orders to Sir Lanzarote of watch him.
The first mission of Gareth in which a lady named Lynette asks for help to Arthur and LAnzarote, to intervene in the realase of her sister Lyonors.
The mission isn't assigned to Lanzarote, the mission assigned to Gareth, who is apparently a member of the kitchen.

Indignant, she flees, and when he scolds Gareth catches up.
In his journey proves itself again and again, but she still despise.

Gareth always is courteous and friendly at all. In the dangerous castle where is Lynette's sister, the young prince overthrow the knight of the Morning Star, the Knight of the midda Sun, the knight of the Evening Star and, finally, the most terrible knight, the knight of Death, which is actually a child forced to play that role by his older brothers.



In the story of Malory, Gareth marries Lyonors, but in this version, Lynette marries with the nephew of Arthur.
